Assessments for special educational needs

Special educational needs
More than three and a half million parents have asked for a special educational needs assessment for their child.
Schools and local councils are under huge pressure to provide support for children with special educational needs with one in three parents asking schools to assess their child for special educational needs.
We also found big gaps in support and waiting times by income. Parents on the lowest incomes are more likely to experience a long wait for a diagnosis compared to parents with the highest incomes despite being twice as likely to ask for an assessment.
Parents with a child entitled to free school meals are twice as likely to have requested an assessment for special education needs as parents whose child is not entitled to free school meals( 56 % vs 28 %)
